Scholarship Program

2025 Scholarship Applications - Now Open

The Society of Women Environmental Professionals (SWEP) of Greater Philadelphia annually awards graduate candidates in accredited environmental graduate, law, and/or PhD programs. This year, we have also opened the application opportunity to undergraduate level students enrolled in accredited environmental programs. Selected scholarship recipients are invited to be recognized at our annual Touchstone Gala, where they have the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments, research, or thesis projects.

We believe scholarships are key to encourage and promote leadership, achievement, and skill development for professionals looking to fulfill a career in the environmental field. To be considered eligible for a scholarship, applicants must be individuals identifying as a woman.

This year, we are presenting one (1) undergraduate scholarship and two (2) graduate scholarships (from a pool of $9,000) to applicants in the pursuit of their respective careers. The opportunity to submit an application for our scholarships will close at midnight on May 16, 2025.

To be considered for this scholarship opportunity, the following parameters must be met prior to applying:

  • The applicant has registered for a SWEP of Greater Philadelphia Student Membership for 2025, or has explained a hardship within the application;
  • The applicant is currently enrolled in an accredited STEM undergraduate, graduate, law, or PhD program for the 2025-2026 school year;
  • Either the applicant, applicant's program, or applicant's place of work is located in the Greater Philadelphia Region; and
  • The applicant is a US Citizen or has obtained a Lawful Permanent Resident status.

    Grant Program

    2025 Grant Application - Now Open

    Each year, as part of our mission to encourage and promote leadership, achievement and the professional development of women in the environmental field, SWEP presents small grants (from a pool of $6,000) to help fund organizations or programs in the Greater Philadelphia Region that creatively address a locally-defined need to enhance, restore, or protect the natural environment. SWEP also supports projects that provide environmental awareness through educational sessions, with particular emphasis on encouraging girls and/or women in the sciences, engineering, or environmental fields.

    This year, applications for our grants will close at midnight on April 25, 2025. Award recipients will be notified after applicant selection takes place on or about May 9, 2025. Applicants must provide a secondary contact in the event the primary contact is unavailable.

    To be eligible for a grant, applicants and projects must be located within the Greater Philadelphia Area, which includes southeastern Pennsylvania, northern Delaware and southern New Jersey.

    Selection Criteria for Grants:

        • The organization must be based in the Greater Philadelphia Region.
        • The impact the SWEP grant will have on the execution of your program. Indicate the percentage the SWEP funding would be of your total program funding.

    (Higher percentages are ranked higher in the selection process.)

        • How the program positively impacts girls/women.
        • How the program’s primary goal is the betterment of the environment through the exposure/education of girls/women to environmental issues/programs.
